The short version. We collect what we need to run the game and keep it safe. We don't sell your data. You can delete your account any time.
What we collect
- Before you have an account: an anonymous player id on your device, your story progress, the first name you give the story, and game choices. Until you claim a handle, the first name stays on your phone.
- When you claim a handle: your @handle, first name, and your 18+ yes/no. These are stored on our servers from this point.
- When you save your story: last name, date of birth, email. Your date of birth is stored privately; staff see only an age band. Your last name is never shown publicly.
- When you play LinkUp Live: room codes, the choice ids you pick, reactions and nudges, reports and blocks. Not free text, because there isn't any between players.
- When you type to an AI character: what you type is sent to our AI provider to write the reply and isn't stored in your profile.
- Push notifications (only if you allow them): a push address for your browser or phone, so we can send game reminders. Turn them off any time in your phone or browser settings.
- Usage analytics (only if you agree to the analytics banner): pages and events, device and browser type, approximate location (country, region, town); never precise location.
- Feedback you choose to send.
What we don't collect: phone contacts, photos, precise GPS, payment details, or government ID.
Why we use it: to run and save your game, keep accounts and rooms safe, enforce age rules, send the reminders you allowed, fix bugs, understand what players enjoy, and show in-game ads (house ads use no personal data; real sponsors get only totals, never who you are).
Who processes it for us: Supabase (database and login, EU region), Vercel (hosting), PostHog EU (analytics, with consent), Resend (login codes by email), Anthropic (AI replies for typed messages), and the push services of your browser or phone maker (Google, Apple, Mozilla) to deliver notifications. They process data only for us.
How long we keep it: while your account is open. When you delete your account, it's deleted, and backups roll off within 30 days. If you play without saving your story, your progress stays with your guest account; we clear guest accounts after 6 months with no activity. A @handle you claimed but didn't save is released after 30 days. Analytics are kept up to 12 months.
Your rights: access, correct, delete, object, and complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (or the UK ICO if you're in the UK). Email holla@linkup234.com.
Under 18s: accounts are for adults only. If someone under 18 tries to sign up, we don't create the account and we delete anything they started.
Cookies and storage: we use your browser's storage to keep your progress and settings on your device, and analytics cookies only after you agree.
